On 3 January 2018 we will hold the third annual
Cincy's Soldiers Banquet at the Union Township Civic Center. This year we received a nomination with the first release of information. The quality of patriot I have met hosting this event is special. Handing out 17" sculpted soldier figures never gets old, especially when the nominator speaks about their reasons for presenting their candidate. After handing out five big awards we recognize area ROTC stand-outs and celebrate all the local military, Cadre, and retired personnel we can. Doing your duty is one thing, honoring the duty itself is another. The most urgent and persistent question to ask is, "What have you done for others?" MLK II
February 23rd, 2017 was a true gathering of military and community heroes. Cincy's Soldiers celebrated five soldiers and we could easily have celebrated ten. The quality of veterans who serve their communities in Cincinnati is amazing. I was especially pleased that we were able to be back at Cincinnati State and continue our partnership with Student Veterans' Affairs.
If you ever need to find a hero, I could point you in the right direction. I meet them all the time at one event or another and they are American veterans.
Cincinnati State Student Veterans' Affairs & The My GI Foundation were proud to co-host the 2016 Cincy's Soldiers honoree banquet at the Cincinnati State Conference Center. The accommodations were perfect and we were able to play military ballads while people ate the best banquet food I have had this year and I have been to a lot of banquets.
Quick overview of the soldiers. They all deserve more of a write-up. Mark Hobbs, Chris Cravens, and Gary Favors were out first honorees. Mark was a paratrooper with over 60 jumps and 16 citations for his dangerous missions. Chris is one of those tough US Marines and was elevated to an investigative NCIS position as a Captain. Gary used his military experience and compassion for others to start some many charitable initiatives here in Cincinnati and his efforts have no bounds.
To be one of Cincy’s Soldiers we considered your unique achievements as a soldier, your contributions to your military branch or other military branches, your military philanthropic commitment, your community service, your furtherance of a proud American Soldier, your character, and your overall commitment to honor, duty, and country. Congratulations!
On Monday, May 15th, 2017 Senator Joe Uecker was my guest speaker at the 2017 My GI Foundation Soldier of The Year Banquet. Senator Uecker has been kind enough to attend two events I have hosted for my veterans. He has represented the 14th District since 2013 as a Republican member of the Ohio Senate.
