Operation Winter Storm will be a partnership between The My GI Foundation and a service club at Loveland High School. Students and faculty may bring in brand new winter clothing item such as; hats, gloves, thermal socks, thermal underwear, blankets, boots, jackets, etc. Your choice on what you bring in. Those who bring in items will receive a voucher from LaRosa's Pizza for a BOGO offer. The more winter gear we collect the more homeless veterans and homeless shelters we can bring much needed items to. Service club will be announced soon and the promotion will run the entire month of November. A FREE pizza and a good deed.
The 2017 Eugene Winston Turner Scholarship was awarded to Robert Duff from Amelia High School. Robert is a tremendous student who will be taking his scholarship to Ohio University to study engineering. Eugene Winston Turner was my great grandfather and served in both WWII and Korea. I did not get the chance to know him, but I believe we were cut from the same cloth. Aaron Banfield from Full Throttle Indoor Karting has endowed the first My GI Foundation Scholarship and we are very gateful to partner with them. Aaron has regular events for veterans and is both generous and kind. We are fortunate to know Aaron and applaud his foundness for American veterans.
The My GI Foundation has launched "IT IS ALL ABOUT THE VETERANS"; as another opportunity to care for my vets. My GI will give 50% to the VA Hospital Homeless Veterans fund, and will donate the other 50% to the 37th Wheelchair Games, hosted in Cincinnati this year. My GI has brought thousands to the VA Homeless Fund and as an accomplished athlete, I know how important it is for the Wheelchair Games participants to overcome adversity and experience success. My GI is behind these wonderful individuals 100%.
Cincinnati was host to the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and The My GI Foundation was honored to include the games in a fundraiser called "It is all about my veterans." We plan to send them a donation for the 38th games in sunny Florida. I hope the athletes enjoyed both the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
The 2017 My GI Foundation Soldier of The Year Banquet is loaded with youth military organizations, inactive, reserve, and retired military including; a WWII veteran. If I invited you, you are leaving with something. So many that have served will be honored and I am honored to have this oppotunity to say thanks. I fundraise, help veterans financially, put together events for the vets, but banquets are special. We will have a state senator as our guest speaker and so many wonderful vets to honor, especially our Soldier of The Year.
On Monday, May 15th, 2017 Senator Joe Uecker was my guest speaker at the 2017 My GI Foundation Soldier of The Year Banquet. Senator Uecker has been kind enough to attend two events I have hosted for my veterans. He has represented the 14th District since 2013 as a Republican member of the Ohio Senate.
